Search: DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo is an alternative search engine to Google.  It focuses on providing users with added privacy by not participating in the extensive profiling that Google does.  This means that it does not log user information, store IP addresses, and only uses cookies if required to do so.  It was launched in 2008, is multilingual, and is used worldwide.  DuckDuckGo makes money primarily through advertising and affiliate revenue, which is based on commissions.  Items from other merchants are essentially re-sold on the site sending new customers their way, which then in turn is rewarded.  Interestingly enough and completely unrelated, the name DuckDuckGo is an intentional reference to the children’s game Duck Duck Goose.
